Phone Battery Dying? Blame Facebook’s App

Like most of you I don’t get very far from my cell phone. It keeps me in touch with our customers, my family & my friends. I swear half the time I pick it up it’s dead or dying even though I’m sure I just had it on the charger.

I’m not a big Facebook user but I dabble. I hadn’t considered how much of an impact the app may have on my phone’s battery life – It came installed on my phone and I wasn’t even sure I could fully remove it.

According to an article I stumbled across last week getting rid of the Facebook app on my phone could be worth 20% to my battery life! Oh the things I could do with an additional 20% of battery, I might even be able to call my mom and tell her I love her.

I figured I’d give it a shot. I didn’t have much to lose and a whole lot to gain.

Prior to removing FB I would charge my phone overnight and once or twice throughout the day either in my car or at my desk I’d use one of my numerous quick chargers to restore some of the battery for 15-20min at a time once or twice a day. By the time the evening came around I’d usually be getting a low battery alert by 7 or 8 at night.

So I dragged that poor Facebook logo to my delete icon on my Nexus 6 and waited.

It’s been a few days now and my very unscientific test has been a resounding success. I promptly forgot the next day that I had removed Facebook and in the evening I wondered how I still had so much battery left. It wasn’t until the second day I recalled doing having removed the app as I was once again delighting in the fact I wasn’t running for a charger in the evening. I haven’t even been topping up my phone throughout the day and I’ve been easily making it from getting out of bed in the morning to crawling back in at the end of the day without touching a charger.

It might not be the hydrogen powered battery cell that will last a week just yet but getting better battery life out of my phone was a welcome improvement.

Give it a shot and let me know how it goes!
